Feng Shui + Clutter

Hi Friends!

Today I want to talk to you about clutter. Fun right? :0)

If you are interested in Feng Shui you need to know that clutter is really not a good thing to have. ANYWHERE.

One of the most important and easiest ways to Feng Shui your home/office/business is to start with decluttering.

PHYSICAL CLUTTER = MENTAL CLUTTER

In today’s world where we have the Container Store and Marie Kondo (two of my faves), decluttering has become en vogue.

With regards to Feng Shui, clutter takes on the form of blocked chi/energy. In order to benefit from Feng Shui the chi needs to nourish and flow throughout your space. Another way to look at it is to think of the arteries in your body and what happens when one of those arteries is blocked. It can affect your entire system, and it can also literally kill you.

I’ve met clients who are so excited to have their spaces aligned according to Classic Feng Shui principles. Yet when it comes down to decluttering, they tend to shy away or get nervous.

They don’t know where to begin, they’ve become too attached to things that no longer serve who they are today, or who they want to become.

The thing to remember is what we keep closest to us in our immediate surroundings affects us the most.

This includes that messy hall closet that you think is fine because no one sees it. You see it! It also includes digital clutter. I know many people that save every single email they receive. The point is you see it and you know it’s there. Think of decluttering as a mind-clearing, a body-clearing, and an emotional-clearing.

As a Feng Shui practitioner I am always careful to not push people somewhere they don’t want to go. Sometimes you’re just not ready to tackle certain tasks, and that’s okay!

You have to be willing and ready to take a look at every nook and cranny and decide if you really want change in your life.

I can come in and do a reading of your home, help make sure you’re sleeping in the right direction, and help you move furniture so that they are in the proper alignment. BUT if your closets are full to the brim, I can tell you the energy isn’t going to move the way it should.

I read recently that according to the Mayo Clinic decluttering can do the following:

  • Ease stress

  • Help you think more clearly

  • Literally make you feel lighter

  • Help you sleep better

Why? Simply because you know have the space.

This means the space to stop worrying about the things that you haven’t done, what you don’t want, and focus on the things you do want.
