Do you think life will be better when _____?

I think we all fall into this trap, especially with the current state of things.

We believe that things will be better and that we will be happier once we have achieved the goal, the pandemic is over, the weather gets nicer, etc.

But I want to offer that thinking this way leads to more of this type of thinking. It sends you down a rabbit hole of feeling like you have no control over your life. You have a lot more power than you realize.

I continually remind myself that my thoughts are choices and challenge those on autopilot, primarily when they don't serve me.

There is no upside to worrying other than more worry and a gloomy outlook.

Yes, bad things happen to people every day, but what good does it serve you to dwell on them? Can you change it? If you can help, great.

If not, it doesn't suit you or anyone else to dwell on anything outside of your control.

Your outlook affects your life, as well as those close to you.

So how can you change your outlook so that you and the people around you can feel a little lighter and happier?

Be grateful.

What can you be grateful for?

An exercise I like to do is find 25 things I am grateful for and write them down. Be really intentional with it; it's not the same if you do this in your head.

As you get going on your list, a little trick I like to do is add some things you are grateful for but don't have yet.

Mixing that in tricks your brain into believing that what you desire is already here because, well, you're thankful for it.

It's not as easy as you think, but I would be interested to know how you feel afterward. I bet it changes how you feel.
